IIT Delhi researchers discovered that fine-grained GPS data from Android smartphones can reveal user activities, environments, and even room layouts without accessing cameras or microphones. The AndroCon system demonstrates how apps with location permissions could potentially harvest sensitive contextual information without explicit consent, achieving up to 99% accuracy in detecting surroundings and 87% accuracy in recognizing human activities.
