GE Aerospace Delivers Critical F404-IN20 Engine for India's Tejas MK-1A Fighter Program

GE Aerospace has supplied another F404-IN20 engine to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for India's Tejas light combat aircraft program, advancing the Rs 48,000-crore procurement of 83 Tejas Mk-1A jets for the Indian Air Force. This delivery supports India's efforts to strengthen its fighter squadron capacity, which currently stands at 31 against the sanctioned strength of 42.

The Indian Defence Ministry has signed a Rs 62,370 crore contract with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to procure 97 indigenous Tejas MK-1A light combat aircraft, including 68 fighters and 29 twin-seaters. With over 64% indigenous content and advanced systems like the Uttam AESA Radar, these aircraft will replace aging MiG-21 fighters and support India's self-reliance initiatives while generating approximately 11,750 jobs annually over six years.
