The Israeli military has reported killing approximately 40 Hamas militants trapped in tunnels beneath Rafah in southern Gaza. These fighters were part of a larger group of about 200 militants who had been confined in the underground network for months, as negotiation efforts for their surrender stalled. Among those killed were three local commanders and the son of a Hamas leader, while the militant group has largely refrained from commenting on the operation.
