The Law Commission of India has informed the Joint Parliamentary Committee that the One Nation, One Election proposal does not violate the Constitution's basic structure. Chaired by Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, the Commission cited judicial precedents supporting Parliament's authority to implement synchronized elections, asserting that the proposed changes maintain constitutional integrity while preserving India's quasi-federal character.
