Bharat Taxi: India Launches First Cooperative Cab Service to Challenge Ola and Uber with Zero Commission Model

India's government has launched Bharat Taxi, the country's first cooperative taxi service designed to compete with Ola and Uber. Starting with a Delhi pilot in November, the initiative allows drivers to keep their full earnings through a membership model rather than paying commissions. By 2030, the service aims to include 100,000 drivers nationwide under the management of Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited with Rs 300 crore initial capital.

The State Transport Authority (STA) in Maharashtra has granted approval for provisional licences to the parent firms of app-based taxi aggregators Ola, Uber, and Rapido for bike taxi services in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
