Following the tragic Karur stampede that claimed 41 lives, actor Vijay's political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has announced its first major political action - a hunger strike in Nagapattinam protesting the continuous arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy. Led by TVK Deputy General Secretary Raj Mohan, the protest criticizes both central and state governments for failing to provide a permanent solution to this decades-old issue that has resulted in approximately 800 Indian deaths. This demonstration holds special significance as Vijay returns to Nagapattinam where he first showed political ambitions in 2011.
