Israel has deported the first four of over 470 activists detained after intercepting a 42-vessel humanitarian flotilla attempting to break the Gaza blockade. The Global Sumud Flotilla, carrying prominent figures including Greta Thunberg, was stopped by Israeli naval forces approximately 42 nautical miles from Gaza, sparking worldwide protests and raising concerns about press freedom after more than 20 journalists were among those detained.
