The Supreme Court of India has stated it will not legislate or monitor every incident of hate speech nationwide, instructing petitioners to utilize existing mechanisms including high courts and police authorities. During a hearing addressing calls for economic boycott of a community, Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta emphasized that proper legal channels already exist, while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued public interest litigation should not be selective to one religion.
