AFSPA Extension in Assam: Three Districts Remain Under Armed Forces Special Powers Act for Additional Six Months

The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has been extended for six more months in Tinsukia, Charaideo, and Sivasagar districts of Assam from October 1. Despite overall improvement in the state's security situation, concerns about ULFA(I) and NSCN(K-YA) activities prompted the extension. The controversial act allows security forces to operate with special powers while facing continued opposition from human rights advocates.
