Kashmir Muslim Organizations Oppose Mandatory Vande Mataram Celebrations in J&K Schools

Religious organizations in Kashmir have strongly opposed a government directive requiring schools across Jammu and Kashmir to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), a coalition of religious scholars, claims the order infringes on religious freedoms by compelling Muslim students to participate in activities that conflict with Islamic teachings. They have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to withdraw what they describe as a coercive directive.
