NIA Special Court Convicts Two More Suspects in Lucknow Al-Qaeda Terror Conspiracy Case

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) special court has convicted two Lucknow residents, Mohd. Mustaqueem and Shakeel, in connection with an Al-Qaeda terror conspiracy case. The conviction follows earlier arrests by the UP Anti-Terrorist Squad of operatives planning attacks before Independence Day 2021. The suspects were part of a recruitment network for Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) directed from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region.

A specialized National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Kochi has convicted Muhammad Azharudeen (27) and Shiek Hidayathulla (35) from Coimbatore for recruiting members and propagating ISIS ideology. Both were found guilty of conspiracy and violations of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, with sentencing scheduled for September 29. The investigation revealed their radicalization through online extremist content and efforts to recruit vulnerable youth for terrorist activities in Kerala and Tamil Nadu between 2017 and 2019.
Indian Army Officer Colonel Purohit Promoted Following Acquittal in 2008 Malegaon Blast Case

Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Shrikant Purohit has been promoted to Colonel rank following his acquittal in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. The special NIA court cited lack of reliable evidence in its verdict. Purohit, who was the first serving Indian Army officer arrested in a terror case, maintained he was a military intelligence officer infiltrating terror organizations.
