Pakistan Revives Sanskrit Education: University Launches Course with Plans for Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita Studies

For the first time since the 1947 Partition, Sanskrit has returned to Pakistani education with Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) introducing a four-credit course. Led by Dr. Shahid Rasheed and supported by Dr. Ali Usman Qasmi, this initiative aims to engage with Pakistan's rich yet neglected Sanskrit archives and develop local expertise in classical Indian texts. The university plans to expand offerings to include studies of the Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita, promoting Sanskrit as a shared cultural heritage that can bridge religious divides in South Asia.
