During his visit to Mumbai leading the UK's largest-ever trade delegation to India, Starmer emphasized the strategic importance of the recently signed Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the two nations, which grants unprecedented duty-free access for 99% of India's exports to the UK and is expected to generate £1.3 billion in new investments and create over 10,600 jobs in Britain. The partnership focuses particularly on technology collaboration, with both countries ranking among the world's top AI powers, while Starmer also expressed support for India securing a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.
